Couples Therapy
Relationships can be tricky. Intimate relationships can be even more tricky. And yet, there are so many wonderful tools and techniques available to help couples in distress and conflict. Too often we see that partners tend to wait too long to tackle the difficult issues and patterns in their relationships. “We’ll just end up in a fight” or “it’s not even worth it” are common pleas we hear from people who are stuck in difficult patterns. Or maybe you find yourself having the same argument over and over again. And of course, if every time you bring up this issue or problem with your partner and everything falls apart – why would you want to even broach the subject? This is where our team of experts come in!
Our couples therapists have undergone extensive training to help guide you in creating more effective and productive communication skills with your partner.
Early on in the therapy process, we teach vital techniques that are evidence based and researched for many years to help couples improve their relationship. In your work with us, here are just a few of the essential skills you’ll learn:
How to (verbally) “fight fair” during arguments
How and when to take a break from the conversation
What to do during that break in order to self soothe and return back ready to collaborate
How to repair the relationship after arguments
How to bring compassion and kindness back into a heated conversation
How to address difficult topics with productive listening skills
How to better understand your partner’s actions, reactions, and intentions
Speak your partner’s “apology language”
Build and rebuild emotional and/or physical intimacy with your partner
Develop a culture of appreciation and admiration within your home
Our couples therapists utilize highly researched and empirically-based therapeutic models, including: Gottman Method Couples Therapy, Emotion-Focused Couples Therapy, Imago Relationship Therapy, Psychobiological Approach to Couples Therapy, Trauma-Informed Couples Therapy, and Relational Life Therapy. Our therapists also have experience working with non-traditional couples and the LGBTQ+ community. Feel free to ask us about these specific approaches for more information.
