Frequently Asked Questions
We're here to help! If you have any questions about our services or therapists, feel free to reach out. Below, you'll find answers to some of the most frequently asked questions.
-
During your first therapy session, your therapist will take time to get to know you, discuss your concerns, and explore what brings you to therapy. They may ask about your personal history, current challenges, and goals for treatment. This session is also an opportunity for you to ask questions, learn about the therapist’s approach, and discuss confidentiality and expectations. The goal is to create a comfortable, supportive space where you can begin working toward positive change.

Finding the right therapist is an important part of your personal growth and well-being. A great way to see if a therapist is a good fit for you is to schedule a brief 15-minute phone consultation before beginning services. This gives you a chance to ask questions, share a little about what you're looking for, and get a feel for the therapist’s style and approach. The right fit should feel comfortable, supportive, and aligned with your needs. Therapy is most effective when you feel heard and understood, so trust your instincts as you decide!
-
The length of therapy varies for each person, depending on your goals, needs, and the challenges you're working through. Some people find short-term therapy (about 12–20 sessions) helpful for specific concerns, while others benefit from longer-term therapy for deeper exploration and lasting growth. Your therapist will work with you to create a plan that feels right for you, and together, you can regularly check in on your progress. Remember, therapy is a personal journey, and there’s no set timeline—what matters most is that you’re getting the support you need at your own pace.

The main difference between a Senior Clinician and an Associate Clinician is the level of experience and licensure status. Senior Clinicians have been fully licensed and practicing independently for a longer period of time, while Associate Clinicians are in the process of completing the required hours for full licensure and work under the supervision of an experienced clinician.
Both Senior and Associate Clinicians at ATX Therapy Center are highly trained and carefully selected to provide exceptional care. If you choose to work with an Associate Clinician, you also benefit from the expertise of their supervising therapist, ensuring you receive thoughtful, well-rounded support. We carefully select and train all our therapists—regardless of experience level—to ensure you receive compassionate, effective, and professional care tailored to your needs.

When you receive therapy services, your therapist may bill your insurance provider for payment.
If your therapist is in-network, they have an agreed-upon rate with your insurance, and claims are submitted directly to the provider. You may be responsible for a copay or coinsurance based on your policy.
If your therapist is out-of-network, you may need to pay upfront and submit a claim to your insurance for reimbursement.
Not all insurance policies cover mental health services, and coverage details vary. To understand your benefits, please review your insurance policy or contact your provider directly.
-
As a courtesy, we will verify your benefits, provide a cost estimate, and confirm in-network status before you begin therapy.
However, insurance information provided to us may not always be fully accurate. We strongly encourage you to confirm your benefits with your insurance provider. You are responsible for ensuring that your insurance details are up to date and for any discrepancies in coverage that may result in additional charges.

A deductible is the amount you must pay out of pocket before your insurance starts covering costs.
For example, if your plan has a $2000 deductible and you receive a series of services costing $4000, you will pay the first $2000, and your insurance will cover the remaining $2000 according to your policy terms.
Even after meeting your deductible, you may still be responsible for copays or coinsurance, depending on your plan. For more details, check your insurance documents or contact your provider.
-
Your out-of-pocket maximum is the total amount you are responsible for paying for covered healthcare services before your insurance begins covering 100% of costs for the remainder of the policy year.
For example, if your plan includes:
A $1,500 deductible
A 25% coinsurance rate
A $5,500 out-of-pocket maximum
And you receive $12,000 worth of medical care, your cost breakdown would be:
Pay $1,500 (your deductible)
Pay 25% of the remaining $10,500 ($2,625 in coinsurance)
Total out-of-pocket cost: $4,125
Once you reach your $5,500 out-of-pocket maximum, your insurance will cover 100% of all eligible healthcare expenses for the rest of the year.
Keep in mind that not all expenses may count toward this limit, so be sure to check with your insurance provider for specific details about your coverage.

ATX Therapy Center utilizes TherapyNotes as a client portal for scheduling, submitting insurance claims, and managing paperwork. All clients are required to use TherapyNotes to establish care with our practice.
For Aetna clients, we work with Headway for insurance claim submissions. If you are a Headway client, all charges, consent forms, and insurance updates must be handled through the Headway portal.

Our late cancellation and no-show policy requires a $75 charge for cancellations made with less than 24 hours’ notice. This policy is in place to compensate your therapist for the time reserved for you. If needed, your therapist may be able to reschedule your session within the same week, depending on availability.
-
Session charges may be processed on or after the date of service, depending on when the clinician submits the claim. Headway sessions are typically charged within a few days after your appointment. If you’re unsure about a charge, feel free to ask. Please note that fees for late cancellations or no-shows may also be billed after the missed session date.
