Brittany (Neece) Whallen
She/Her/Hers
I serve as the Founder and Director of ATX Therapy Center PLLC. I have always been interested in the field of psychology and attempting to learn more about why people think, act, and feel the way they do. Every single person is unique and views the world based on his/her unique experiences and perceptions. This is why I tailor therapy treatment to meet the needs and characteristics of each client to provide the best therapy experience possible for you. I aim towards creating a warm, empathic, and safe environment based on a judgment-free relationship of trust and compassion for all my clients. I received my Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology from the University of Texas at Austin. I then went on to receive my Master of Arts Degree in Counseling from St. Edwards University, and have been in practice as a counselor for over 14 years.
I am actively licensed as a Licensed Professional Counselor-Supervisor and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist-Supervisor. As well as providing direct therapy services, I also am a Texas state board-approved supervisor, which means I provide supervision and consultation to LPC-Associates, LMFT-Associates, and counseling students. I also served as the Clinical Director for the Austin Center for Grief and Loss for over 5 years and have been involved with the center in various staff positions since 2011.
I have completed the Gottman Method Couples Therapy Level 1 and 2 Training. The Gottman Institute was founded by Dr. John and Julie Gottman to research relationships and share findings with mental health professionals on techniques used to restore relationships. Additionally, I have been trained in the Prepare-Enrich Marriage and Premarital Counseling program. I can provide a certificate upon completion of this program that entitles you to a discount on your state marriage license. I am also a trained facilitator of the Nurturing Parenting/Co-Parenting Program. This program is an evidence-based program developed from over 30 years of research regarding high conflict family environments. Techniques and principles taught through the Nurturing Parenting program help parents learn how to parent in ways that decrease conflict or abuse and increase empathy and connection with their children.
I have completed training and advanced-technique workshops in EMDR, which stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. I have also completed training in EFT, which stands for Emotion-Freedom Technique. Both EMDR and EFT have been significantly studied and researched with findings indicating that it can be incredibly effective for treatments regarding trauma and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Between myself and my specialized team, I’m certain that we can help you find the path to improve your life, and to create meaning, hope, and joy for your future.
